Making Skills – Terms of Service

Last Updated: July 2026

These Terms of Service govern the purchase of courses and services provided by Making Skills. By booking or purchasing a course through Cademy, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms of Service.

These Terms should be read alongside the Making Skills Enrolment & Information Pack, Privacy Policy and any course-specific guidance issued during your programme.

1. About Making Skills

Making Skills provides online practical learning programmes and educational resources, including nationally recognised qualifications, practical cooking tuition and associated learning materials.

Our courses are designed to provide flexible, supportive learning while maintaining high standards of teaching, safeguarding and assessment.

2. Eligibility

The Pearson Level 2 BTEC Home Cooking Skills course is intended for learners aged 14 years and above.

Where a learner is under the age of 18, the booking must be completed by a parent or legal guardian, who accepts these Terms on behalf of the learner.

3. Course Delivery

Courses are delivered primarily online through a combination of:

Live online lessons
Recorded lessons
Downloadable learning resources
Practical cooking activities
Tutor feedback

Weekly learning resources are normally released on Mondays.

Live online lessons are normally delivered on Tuesdays.

Lesson recordings are usually uploaded from Wednesdays for learners unable to attend live.

Making Skills reserves the right to amend lesson dates, times, tutors or delivery methods where reasonably necessary.

Where circumstances outside our reasonable control prevent a live lesson from taking place, Making Skills may provide an alternative live session, a recorded lesson or alternative learning activities.

4. Parent / Carer Responsibilities

Where a learner is under the age of 18, the parent or legal guardian accepts responsibility for ensuring an appropriate level of supervision based on:

the learner's age
experience
confidence
the practical activity being undertaken

Parents and carers remain responsible for deciding whether a learner is sufficiently mature and competent to safely complete each practical activity.

Parents and carers are responsible for ensuring practical cooking activities take place:

in a safe environment
using suitable equipment
following all safety guidance provided by Making Skills

Making Skills cannot supervise learners within their own homes.

5. Kitchen Safety

Learners agree to follow all safety guidance provided during lessons and within course resources.

Parents and carers should ensure, where appropriate, that learners:

wear suitable clothing and footwear
tie back long hair
maintain good food hygiene
use knives and cooking equipment safely
work within a clean and safe kitchen environment

6. Fitness to Participate

Parents and carers are responsible for informing Making Skills of any medical condition, allergy, disability, dietary requirement or additional need that may affect the learner's safe participation in practical cooking activities.

Making Skills will make reasonable adjustments wherever reasonably possible but cannot do so where relevant information has not been provided.

7. Assessment & Artificial Intelligence

Assessment requirements are determined by Pearson.

Learners build evidence throughout the course before completing practical assessment activities.

Practical assessments may be completed remotely using secure live video observation.

Pearson may moderate learner work as part of its quality assurance processes.

Learners agree to cooperate with any reasonable requests relating to assessment or moderation.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, including ChatGPT and similar technologies, may be used to support learning.

However, all coursework submitted for assessment must represent the learner's own understanding and comply with Pearson assessment requirements.

Making Skills reserves the right to investigate any work where there are reasonable grounds to believe it does not represent the learner's own work.

Learners may enrol until 31 October at the advertised course fee.

Learners joining after this date may be required to pay a £100 late enrolment fee to cover additional administration and awarding organisation registration costs.

Late enrolment remains subject to course availability.

Late entrants are responsible for independently catching up on missed learning using the recorded lessons and course resources provided.

Making Skills cannot guarantee additional tuition for learning missed before enrolment.

12. Cancellation & Refunds

Consumers have statutory cancellation rights under UK consumer legislation.

Where digital content has been accessed or live tuition has commenced, refunds may be adjusted to reflect the proportion of services already provided, except where consumer legislation requires otherwise.

internet or platform outages
severe weather

Where reasonably possible, affected lessons will be rearranged or suitable alternative learning provided.

17. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such liability cannot legally be excluded under UK law.

Subject to applicable law, Making Skills shall not be liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from participation in the course.

Parents and carers acknowledge that practical cooking activities take place within the learner's home environment and accept responsibility for ensuring appropriate supervision and a safe working environment.
